International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually observed on 3 December with an objective to promote an awareness of disability issues, the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities and integration of persons with disabilities in the main stream of each aspect of the social, political, economic and cultural status of their communities.
We went to Rawalakot to join RC Rawalakot in their walk and to attend their function for the special persons on 3rd December 2010. I was accompanied by Rtn. Dr.M Ifrahim Satti (Assistant Governor), Rtn. Muzzammil Ahmed Zahid (President RC Rawalpindi), Rtn. Atta Ul Haq Qazi (RC Rawalpindi) and Rtn Manzoor H Malik (RC Rawalpindi).
The walk was through the town to make the public aware of the importance of the day. It was followed by the function where all the speakers were the special persons.
We heard their grievances against the society and the government and their suggestions as how to improve the current situation.
I gave Rs.5000/- to a special person who is Hafiz-e-Quran and recited Quran and Naat and also Rs.5000/- to the association of Deaf persons.
Goodies bags were given to all the children present there. The bags were donated by the Rotary club of Green City Islamabad.
Sleeping bags were given to the special persons and anti biotic (2000 tablets) medicines were also given to Rtn. Shabir Ahmed Khan(President RC Rawalakot) to make arrangements to be properly prescribed by a physician. These items were organized by Rotary Club Rawalpindi.
It was an eye opening visit since the disability ratio is over 8% in the area. We were pleased to see that Rotary was quite active and recognized in the area.
Yours in Rotary
